Music and festivals

Sängerfest, Posaunenfest, Schulfest and Schützwoche belong to a living history of choirs, brass bands, accordion performances, German musical traditions, Zulu music and dance, and school performances.

These traditions are practised in the present, alongside concerts and other occasions that bring people together.

Making and creating

Traditions in Hermannsburg are not only preserved; they are practised, taught and shared. Advent wreath making, art workshops, Zulu love-letter beadwork where supported, local makers and museum workshops create space for learning by doing.

Traditional Zulu pottery was shared in a hands-on workshop at the Hermannsburg Missionshaus Museum on 29 October 2025, led by Tugela Valley potter Buzephi Magwaza. Participants learned to shape their own pots using traditional hand-building techniques. This is a past event; its former cost and booking details are not current information.
