Our Story

The stone Peter Paul Church seen from its garden side

01

Before the village

The wider region held human histories long before the settlement established in 1854. Accounts refer to mobile pastoral communities and San presence in the broader landscape. This early context deserves careful research and should not be compressed into a single origin story.

Settlement and perseverance

Louis Harms and the Hermannsburg Mission form an important part of the settlement’s history. Carl Behrens owned Perseverance Farm; the name “Perseverance” is associated with delays in securing its title deed. These details, together with Boer settler history, should be developed further from verified archival sources.

More than 170 years later, continuity here is visible in institutions, families, buildings, working land and shared memory.
